Revitalizing one of America's first "Main Street" concepts
At the heart of the Govans neighborhood in North Baltimore, SBER, along with joint venture partners Williams Jackson Ewing, Manekin Corporation LLC and Hawkins Development, has revived one of America's first "Main Street" concepts in America — Belvedere Square. The original concept, including distinct boutique retailers and unique food and beverage vendors, was successfully redeveloped and re-merchandised. It is conveniently located at the crossroads of many upscale Baltimore neighborhoods that feed consumer and business traffic each day.
Many Baltimoreans are familiar with this neighborhood because of the historic Senator Theatre, located just around the corner on York Avenue. Featured in John Waters' Cecil B. Demented, the Senator Theatre has hosted the world premieres of several movies including Ladder 49, filmed in Baltimore.
Nestled just north over the footbridge that joins the park to Belvedere Square, Evesham Park has become a lovely sanctuary that's now being maintained by residents of the surrounding neighborhoods.
Previous years work has transformed the park into a family friendly, safe and relaxing environment for the entire community; a destination for dog walkers, mothers with strollers and Belvedere Square shoppers. Showcasing the recent efforts by SBER and their neighborhood partners, Evesham Park is proud to host its 4th annual free summer concert bringing several hundred neighbors to this once unknown or avoided city park.
"The park is an ongoing labor of love for our community," notes EPNA former president Leslie Wietscher. "While there is always work to be done, we're proud of what has been accomplished and want to share it with everyone."
